MH history and getting a visa
« on: May 16, 2015, 11:16:14 AM »
Hi there,

This might be a bit obscure but I am thinking about my future and how I want to move abroad. I'm worried that a history of SH and mental health will affect visa applications? Has anyone had any experience of this?

Ive heard a while back from someone who was going to America that if your sectioned in the past they not happy to grant u a visa, but best to check it out as this was from a while back.

Hope this helps

The US ESTA visa application does ask if you've ever engaged in terrorist activities, fraud, amongst other things.

1) Do you have a physical or mental disorder; or are you a drug abuser or addict; or do you currently have any of the following diseases: *

Chancroid
Gonorrhea
Granuloma Inguinale
Leprosy, infectious
Lymphogranuloma venereum
Syphilis, infectious
Active Tuberculosis

I can't remember if it asks for more in depth info on MH. It probably does.

I was thinking more about Japan, sorry should have written that earlier! Tried researching on the embassy site, seems to ask about crime but not MH...
