Showing scars (again)

I know this sort of thing has been asked a million times before, sorry.
Last year I got to the point of wearing shorter sleeves in front of some of my family - I told them with a 'reason' (going on holiday) and on the whole it was okay. It was amazing being able to wear whatever I wanted.
Long story short, I want to broach the topic with some of my friends. I don't have any particular 'reason' this time though, and since last summer I have new red scars that feel a LOT more exposing. Just not sure how to go about it this time.

Do you feel that it's something that needs discussing or an excuse.
I don't know how much they know about your harming, or any of your MH stuff, but would it work, for example, to explain that you have some scars from self harm, but you want to be able to wear short sleeves in the summer?

It sounds like they already know about before so if that is the case why not just wear what you want to and not mention it.
If they don't know, maybe tell them how you told your family.
